Germany
Of course Germany offers a rich historical experience, allowing you to immerse yourself into the time period of World War Two. But, the country also has much more to offer. For all you history fanatics, Munich is a must to explore medieval sights, and Berlin alone has 175 museums that will make you an expert in German history. For those who want to get out of the city and enjoy the wildlife, visiting the upper middle rhine valley is a must. Here, you can explore magnificent castles, historic ruins, and encapsulating views. To make the most of your trip, consider taking a river cruise to fully take advantage of the wonderful sights. Overall, Germany offers a rich experience, allowing you to explore both nature and history. To keep out of the hustle and bustle of the cities, there is plenty to do in less-well known areas, allowing you to discover some hidden gems.
Italy
No doubt when you hear Italy, you think of the leaning tower of Pisa, or the Vatican. But like Germany, Italy has much more to offer than just its main cities. If you are looking for a relaxing break whilst experiencing new cultures, then Cinque Terre is for you. This luxury holiday spot consists of five unique villages, which sit on the edge of cliftops. Listed as a UNESCO Heritage site, the Cinque Terre gives you the opportunity to experience five different cultures, historic sites, and foods, all whilst enjoying the peaceful view of the ocean. The tranquility, along with the bursts of history and culture have earned the Cinque Terre to be known as the Italian Riviera. However, if you are looking for a city break, be sure to visit Rome, where you can be transported back to the times of the Roman Empire by walking through the Valley of The Temples, which dates back to the 5th century.
Canada
If you are looking to visit the Americas, then British Columbia (BC) in Canada offers the perfect balance between exploration and relaxation. For an easy day, visit the UBC Botanical Gardens, the oldest botanical gardens in the country. Strolling through the 109 acres of land, you will find 3500 different plants to discover. Or, if you prefer to admire the tall skyscrapers that shape Vancouver’s skyline, without getting caught up in the rush of the city, then Stanley Park is the place for you. Situated in the city, Stanley Park offers you a view of impressive structures that form downtown, whilst also allowing you to relax at the beach, and appreciate the wildlife. BC is also home to a number of small Islands, which you can reach via ferry. Victoria, in particular, is a charming small island, whose quaint city sits on the sea. Here, you can take in the outstanding view of the sea whilst strolling through the city, and you might even be able to catch a glimpse of the rocky mountains.
Malta
Sitting south of Italy, Malta is a small country, perfect for over 60’s. The laid-back atmosphere combined with the warm weather makes Malta the perfect relaxation holiday destination. Perhaps the most astounding location to visit is the city of Mdina. Dating back to the 8th century, Malta has preserved this city just like it was built in the medieval times. Strolling through the streets of Mdina, you are completely transported back to the medieval ages. The country also offers a range of picturesque gardens, including the presidential garden, where you can enjoy the stunning grounds of the President’s garden. On the edge of the country lies the capital city Valletta. Here, you can not only visit St John’s Cathedral, and the popular upper barrakka gardens, but you can also take a horse and carriage ride around the city. Cathedrals and palaces in Malta feature some of the most magnificent architecture in the world. To truly appreciate this, make sure to visit Plazzo Parisio, which is less well-known, but offers some of the most elegant architecture, and relaxing gardens.
Wherever you choose to spend your next holiday, it is important that you take some time off and relax. As you age, looking after your brain health becomes increasingly important, and finding time to sit back and do something you like is the perfect way to look after your mind and soul.
